Bay Area Kite League (BayKL) aggregates Surfr kiting sessions from all Bay Area sites and creates user activity rankings and leaderboards.

Inspiration

The San Francisco Bay Area offers incredibly diverse and unique kiting spots, each with its own nuances, challenges, and excitement. I hope that BayKL both spotlights and celebrates the passion and adventures of our local kiteboarding scene, while strengthening and fostering even more connections and camaraderie among us!

This inspiration came from the 2024 season-ender BBQ at Crissy Field, where we celebrated various accomplishments across our local rider community. It was incredibly fun to acknowledge all the amazing experiences we shared throughout the season, both collectively and individually.

BayKL Key Features

1. Activity Across All Sites

Check out BayKL at the end of every day to see what happened across the bay!

Did Bodega go off? Did Ocean Beach have an epic day? Did Alameda have one of those epic hella windy days? Did Racetracks turn out to be surprise hotspot after a wind famine? Did anyone brave that cold and windy storm anywhere? It’s a great way to see who the dedicated regulars are at each location and which launches have been most popular.

2. Achievements, Points, and Ranks

BayKL’s achievement system automatically tracks unique stats, capturing details such as total hours kited at each site, the downwinders you’ve completed, geolocation milestones like crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, and your highest jumps across the Bay. Each achievement unlocks points that drive leaderboard standings and individual site rankings, providing a fun sense of competition and measurable progress for every rider.
